How to go to the ADN Cultural Center ?

« Samten dzong » is the name the famous French explorer and orientalist Alexandra David-Néel gave to her home in Digne les Bains. It is now a museum, situated at 27, avenue maréchal Juin - 04000 Digne les Bains. Tel +33 (0) 4 92 31 32 38. (Digne exit on the RN85, follow signs to Nice). She spent a total of thirty or so years living in the house and did much of her writing there ; it is bathed in her memories.

There is a visitors' car-park situated in the small garden surrounding the museum. However, during the summer period, you will find it easier to park at the Jean Roland stadium situated close by ; take rue Cassin to get to the stadium. Please do not park on the RN85.

Visits at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 3.30 p.m.

Free admittance. Guided tour lasts 2h. Commentary possible in English and German.

Alexandra David-Néel wrote many books and many more were written about her. Now an interactive cultural CD-ROM (Mac and PC) transports the tireless explorer who lived for a hundred years into the third millennium and virtual discovery.

There are many activities available for those who have a definite interest in Tibet and information is provided on the Internet site. The "Alexandra David-Néel sponsorship" programme invites you to sponsor a Tibetan child, student, elderly person or monk living in India. And there are annual "Tibetan Open Days" which demonstrate aspects of traditional Tibetan culture.

After you have toured the museum, visit the Tibetan craft and book shop to stock up on knowledge and memorabilia.

Alexandra David-Néel fell in love with Digne and the Alpes de Haute-Provence. You are bound to do so too....
