The Summer Activities.

Dear friends, here is the program of the activities that we propose to you for this month of September 2000 at the Alexandra David-Néel's Museum, two free week-ends open to everybody.


Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September 2000

The French Post pays homage to Alexandra David-Néel, Tibet explorer, and associates her with five others great french adventurers by editing, in next September, a serie of six postal stamps representing Paul-Emile Victor, Haroun Tazieff, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Norbert Casteret, Eric Tabarly and Alexandra David-Néel.


The advanced release of the Alexandra David-Néel's postal stamp will take place in Digne-les-Bains, September 16th and 17th 2000. "La Poste", the "Association Philatélique Dignoise" and the Alexandra David-Néel Cultural Center organize for this occasion a serie of important philatelic exhibitions. More than 3500 stamp press will be produced.

At the Alexandra David-Néel's Museum and at the "Halle des Sports" :

  • Exhibition of french stamps, from colonies and themes. Also stamps from tibet, India and Buthan.

  • Exhibition of old photographs about the life of Alexandra and about Tibet.
  • Sale of the envelope and postal card "firt day", with appending of the mark "first day".

Free entry, showing rooms open from 9am to 7pm.

Saturday September 16th at the Gassendi Cultural Center :

  • At 3pm conference of Joëlle Désirée Marchand, Doctor of geography, cartographer at University of Amiens and biographer of A. David-Néel. Signature of her two books about the explorer (biography and album).

  • At 4pm, projection of the film : "Alexandra David-Néel du Sikkim au Tibet interdit". (projection time around 52 minutes). Free Entrance.


September 30th & October 1st 2000 - Tibetan Days.

Program of Saturday Septembre 30th 2000 :

  • Alexandra David-Néel's Museum from 2:30pm to 4pm, conference of Matthieu Ricard (bouddhist monk, translator of His Holiness the Dalaï-Lama and writter) about "Contemplative life and Active life".

  • At the Gassendi Cultural Center, Film from Eric Valli "Himalaya, enfance d’un chef". Two sessions at 4:30pm and 6:30pm

  • At the Convention Center at 9pm, conference of the Venerable Palden Gyaltso (John Humphrey Prize 98) about the tortures practiced in Tibet.

  • Following this conference, 6 tibetan monks of the Tantric College of Gyuto will perform a concert of monastics songs.

Program of Sunday October 1st 2000 :

  • Alexandra David-Néel's Museum from 9:30am to 10:30am, conference of Mister Wangpo Bashi, Tibetan Office Secretary, about "Which future for Tibet ?"

  • At 11am in the park of the A. David-Néel's Museum, inauguration by the venerable Palden Gyatso of a monument dedicated to 1200000 tibetans dead during the chinese invasion.
